Five activities with your colleagues that do not include coffee

The transition to telework had made us realise the value of community at work. When we can now finally return to our workplaces, however, the social change can feel tough for some. The atmosphere in the coffee room may be a little stiffer than before the pandemic. Therefore, it may be time to take the help of relationship building activities to break the ice! Here we have collected five tips.

Film and series club

Depending on the weather, film and TV are probably the most common topics of conversation in lunchrooms around the country. So why not make it an orderly activity? The concept is simple and you decide for yourself what the layout should look like. One episode a week or an entire season a month? Predefined discussion points or perhaps your own reviews? It is also possible to easily include people who work remotely by being seen in a video conference.

Flea market / exchange day

Get to know your colleagues while updating your wardrobe! A person's clothing style or interior design details can reveal a lot about his personality. But also surprise! Regardless, many of our belongings come with a story - which can also serve as a good conversation starter. A flea market or exchange day can be varied by, for example, having specific themes. Such as; party and glitter, books, shoes or maybe "my dumbest purchase".

Lunch yoga and meditation

The benefits of joint yoga and meditation sessions in the workplace are many and extend far beyond relationship building. Yoga and meditation prevent stress and stiffness, reduce sedentary lifestyle, increase circulation and give the brain a much-needed break, to name a few examples

Friday quiz

Who does not appreciate a fun quiz? Here the possibilities for variation are endless! Divide the group into teams or run separately. Have a rolling schedule of who holds the quiz and decides the theme for the week or use ready-made online. At kahoot.com, for example, you can put together your own quiz or take part in others'. If many people work from home, sites and apps like Kahoot can be a good solution as everything is digital.

Coffee club

Yes, the headline promised a list without coffee but we could not keep up. The coffee break is still a sacred moment for many, but there is development potential. A coffee club could look like a person in the office is responsible for this week's coffee. However, it must be something out of the ordinary, which does not mean extra expensive and luxurious cinnamon buns. Rather unusual sweets from other countries or maybe a film-inspired coffee - it is guaranteed to open up for conversation.
