6 Tips For Creating a Better Work Environment

Having a pleasant environment to work in has many advantages. Your employees will feel good and enjoy their work, leading to increased productivity and, in turn, better profitability. It's up to you as an employer to create and promote a safe, healthy and ergonomic workplace. Check out our 6 tips for how you can make your workplace even better.

1. Ergonomics is everything

Enlist the help of a qualified ergonomist and check that everyone has the right work tools – for those who may be on the shorter or taller side, adjustments could need to be made! The height of desks, chairs and computer monitors are important and should be taken in to consideration.

2. Varied work

Strain injuries are one of today's biggest workplace problems. Variety is the key to effectively prevent such damage. Try to ensure that tasks, posture, tools and pace are varied throughout the day and avoid constant repetition of the same tasks or working positions if possible.

3. Lift correctly

Back injuries are quite common in the construction industry or warehouse sector. While most workplaces of this nature will require you to do a manual handling course, it's always good to remember to avoid lifting below knee height and above shoulder height. Always carry close to the body and help each other with heavier lifts. Teach the right technique to your employees so that it's right from the start.

4. Reduce noise

Reducing noise can help to increase concentration. Using noise reduction or hearing protection can be good for removing unwanted noise from machines or people. Set up a clear policy for how you should work in order to cope with tasks that require concentration.

5. Good lighting

Correct lighting is a essential for being able to perform a good job. Make sure that the lighting you have is flicker-free and does not glare. Encourage employees to go out into the daylight during breaks, especially during the darker months. It helps to re-energise the the body and helps boost seratonin levels!

6. Work within regulations

Keep track of which laws and regulations apply to your industry and constantly work on any issues that may arise in your work environment. Make regular risk assessments and draw up action plans so that everyone in the workplace feels good and can always do their best.
