Residual waste is what remains after packaging, food waste, bulky waste, electrical waste, medicines and hazardous waste have been sorted out.
Separate food waste to be put in a compost bin. Sort and separate plastic, packaging, newspapers, batteries, medicines and hazardous waste. Anything left over can be put in the rubbish bin. Check locally what can be recycled.
You sort your waste so it can go on to be recycled. Recycling means that the material in discarded products and other waste is used as raw materials when new products are produced.
 
Packaing , including glass, must be completely emptied of food residue, but they do not need to be thoroughly cleaned. 

 
You don't need to remove lids or labels from plastic bottles or jars in Ireland before putting in to your recycling bin. Remove plastic lids from glass jars, glass should be brought to your local recycling center and not put in the recycling bin at home.
